We apply the same restraint to reader metadata that we apply to oceanographic claims: collect only what is strictly necessary to deliver static pages, and state clearly where data resides.

When your browser requests a page or illustration from our server, standard HTTP access logs record the requested URL, timestamp, HTTP status code, and truncated IP address for security and DDoS mitigation. Logs are rotated and purged after 14 days.
3. Client-Side Science Question Tool
Text entered into the form on our Contact page is processed exclusively inside your browser’s local memory via vanilla JavaScript to generate a downloadable .txt file or clipboard string. No form entries are transmitted to our servers unless you voluntarily send an email to our editorial address.
